We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We were there for four nights. The staff were very helpful. We paid the 10Euros to use the spa all week. It was worth it. We used it two times in the evening after long days of touring or shopping. Was nice. Rooms were newly renovated. Had a problem with the thermostat however. Were not able to make our room cooler and being right on the water front and the wind blowing, the window was not an option to have open. The breakfast staff were very friendly. The food was however the same everyday. Got a little repetative being there four nights. Was wierd having fried rice for breakfast but it was tasty. The view of the opera house being built on the waters edge kept us entertained over breakkie. For the price and the location this hotel was a top choice! Close

This hotel is a great deal. The standard room is small but comfortable. The breakfast is ample. And the hotel is quiet, yet very close to everything you want to see and do. Be sure to spend the extra 10 euros for access to the spa, which includes a hot tub, sauna and steam shower. The admission fee is good for your entire stay and includes a robe and slippers. The hotel staff is courteous and extremely helpful -- they booked taxis, tours and airport shuttles for us and gave restaurant recommendations and directions to everything. It's a great value too. When booking this trip to Reykjavik we were looking for a hotel that was well situated, modern with good amenities and good value. We looked at several different reviews websites including TripAdvisor before we made our choice and were not disappointed. Reykjavik is not a big city and the Arnarhvoll is only a very short walk (2 mins) from the city centre. The hotel is situated near the harbour which means it was quiet and only a very brief walk from the coastline looking towards Mt. Esja and the Solfar viking ship sculpture. The staff in the Arnarhvoll all spoke very good English, were very polite and extremely helpful when booking excursions. The breakfast included in the price was served in a buffet style on the top floor, which looked out from the coastline of Reykjavik. There was a large selection of food and drink, both hot and cold and definitely something there for everyone. The room was clean, comfortable and the underfloor heating was brilliant. The bed especially was extremely comfortable! In addition to what was expected, upon arrival we were told about the "wellness" area located in the basement. For a very small charge we had full use for the entire week. This included a steam room, sauna and hot tub and was extremely relaxing at the end of a long day. First of all the reception staff was GREAT - each and every one were very helpful from accomodation arrangements, to travel arrangements - each interaction was comfortable. The hotel is very centrally located to the center of Reykjavik but it is also very quiet. A pleasant walk to a number of areas. We never needed transportation other than to go to the airport or a tour. The room was small, the main problem being there were no drawers, nor adequate space to hang clothes. It was clean and the staff cleaned it regularly. I had read in another review about the seaview room request and it was true - our rooms were on the 7th floor and overlooked the sea and that made a great deal of difference since the rooms were small. The breakfast was fine - it got a little tiring after 4 days since there wasn't much change day to day, but the coffee was good, the breads wonderful, the staff pleasant and overall it was nice having it available. The spa was nice; true it would be more appreciate if it was part of the cost, but for 10 Euros for your entire stay it was a pleasant part of the day. There wasno internet access to check emails etc if you didn't have a laptop with you but you could use Center Hotels computer stations at no cost by simply showing your room key. I am not a big internet/email user so it was not a problem, but if you depend on this technology either bring your laptop or . .. find another hotel. For Vegetarian, in Reykjavik there are a numbert of places to eat good vegetarian meals. It was not a problem for me, you see them quite frequently and even the fish restaurant we ate at had a very good salad. Again I want to reiterate that the staff contributed to our stay in Iceland being wonderful. In my opinion the hotel is not frilly, but quite adequate as a place to stay while one enjoys the country.
