we stayed there for one night on Halloween... beautifull location across from the harbour, lovely reception area, casual dining with fantastic menu. suitable for families and couples. bedrooms beautifully furnished , even if you dont have a view. didnt check out the breakfast , but had leisurely tea and scones with jam and cream in the foyer next morning - very relaxing.

I live in the Dun Laoghaire area and have just hosted a conference with colleagues from several European countries. I stayed in the Royal Marine for 4 nights with the rest of the group and was absolutely delighted with it. The colleagues were all seriously impressed!
The location is beautiful and couldn't be more convenient - near the sea, shops and transport. The standard of the rooms is excellent, and they are impeccably clean. I think the bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept in.
The staff were all charming. I felt we got amazing value for money. Although the Royal Marine is only a couple of miles from my home, I'd love to stay there again!

Trip with our 10 month old son for 3 nights. Room was an excellent size with a huge bed! All clean and fresh. As a couple we have stayed in some lovely hotels, now with a 10 month old we did not want to compromise on the type of hotel we were used to. Made us feel very comfortable and welcomed with him. We thought that breakfast was excellent, great choice and the cooked breakfast was really 1st class. Location was good, sea was very close and Dublin only a 20 min train ride away. We just couldn't fault this hotel and its staff.

A great hotel next to the hotel, although we did not have a sea view it was a nice experience being so close and in close proximity to good walks etc. The hotel was great, lovely health club and swimming pool (caps are a must). Room well furnished and really nice, the bar in the hotel was very nice for food - didnt eat in the restaurant (a little pricy) but the bar was fantastic and had a really good selection. Its a shame the wifi wasnt free in the hotel - i stayed in a 2* hotel a week later with free wifi, its a shame that they couldnt have this service. Conceirge very knowledgable.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights to celebrate my husbands 40th and also our 1st wedding anniversary. I e-mailed the hotel prior to our stay to see if they could help me arrange a surprise birthday cake they couldn't have been more helpful and the cake was amazing!!
The room we had was in the newer part of the hotel and hence had the additional benefit of a balcony, great sea view. The room was gorgeous a super king size bed, seatee, coffee table and flat screen TV plus another table with 2 chairs and the standard vanity unit and mirror etc. The bathroom had a nice long bath and a power shower. The rooms were kept very clean by the staff.
The hotel public areas seem to be popular with local business people as there were a number of people with laptops (wifi available) using the plentiful seating areas. Hardy's Bar is open from 12noon daily and we ate in there and the food was very nice. Also the price of both the food and the drinks in the hotel was reasonable in comparison to Dublin generally which we found extremely expensive (average 8euros for a pint of Guiness and a glass of diet coke!!). We didn't eat in the main restuarant so I can't comment on the food specially there. We did have breakfast in our room on our first morning and the food was lovely and more importantly still hot - previous experience of breakfast in hotel rooms has resulted in the food being somewhat luke warm by the time it gets to us.
The hotel has a lovely pool area - 18 metres, in the pool there is a special jet of water that pum les your back etc which was very invigorating. There is also a large jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. Swimming caps MUST be worn they also ask you to wear flip flops around the pool but we didn't have any with us and they were OK about it. There is also a gym but we didn't go into this. There are even plasma TV screens in the changing rooms.
When going up to the bedrooms via the lifts you need your room key (swipe card) to operate the lift. Don't store the card next to a mobile phone or a credit card as it effects it and we had to get ours reset a few times the first couple of days!
The reception and bar staff were all very helpful and pleasant.
The hotel is situated approx 7 miles from Dublin itself but the area has lots of shops around it and a number of bars/pubs not too far from the hotel. We found a bar called Scotts which served breakfast Mon to Fri 9am - 12noon for 8.95 euro or a mini breakfast for just 5.95euro (the cheapest we found - but really lovely breakfast). There are some restaurants down on the front promenade and we went into the Real Gourment Burger which as the name suggests sold burgers but don't think McDonalds it was a really decent meal!
It's possible to walk down to the promenade throught the hotel grounds at the front of the hotel. There is a sea wall protecting the docks area which is a nice stroll and the promenade taking you towards the next village is also a nice stroll.
Transport to Dublin itself is very easy the DART station is only 4-5 minutes walk and costs 4.20 euro return.
If you have arrived via the Seacat this is only 5-6 minutes walk up to the hotel.
Transport to the AIrport from the hotel couldn't be easier there is a bus called the Patton Flyer and one of it's stops is the Royal Marine Hotel front door. It generally arrives at the hotel at approx 5 to 10past the hour takes approx 40 mins to get to the airport. The cost is 8 euro to the airport. I think it is possible to get a return ticket and this may work out cheaper. It leaves the airport dead on the hour.
If you are driving to this hotel there is car parking and I think it is free up until 1pm on day of check out.
Be careful in Dublin itself Temple Bar and Grafton Street areas which are tourist areas are generally fine but if you go onto O'connell Street you can cross into more unsavoury area of Dublin - this was advised to us by people who live and are from Dublin not from personal opinion. There were a significant number of "beggars" on the streets but a number of these individuals are believed to be "professional beggars" so just be aware.
Overall we had a great break and would definitely recommend this hotel to other people and if we went back to the Dublin area would defo book this hotel.
We booked via expedia and got a really good rate £240 for the 4 nights - on the hotels own site I think some of the rooms were £240 euros per NIGHT!!! Well worth the money we paid.
Hope this helps.
