The Barclays is located conveniently at walking distance from 5th Av and the UN buildings. However, I would not advise anyone to stay at this hotel. There is a lack of (friendly) staff, the rooms are old, dirty and very expensive. With only two staff at check in during the entire week (the rest of staff hiding in offices behind check in), it started out bad. Check in almost took an hour, only to be told that the reserved early check in room was not ready. So, two hours later I had to wait again for 45 minutes to get the key. That is unacceptable. The rooms are small (which I expect in NYC), but they are in urgent need of a thorough cleaning or of a complete renovation. The furniture is dusty and greasy, the bathroom features mould, hair, strange stains. I asked housekeeping to clean my bathroom, but they indicated that would only happen the next day (conveniently after check out). Complaining at the reception was impossible, too busy again. The bed is ok. There is no AC, just a noisy air recycling system. Windows can be opened, but the noise from outside is too much. On the good side, the rooms themselves are quit, I had a room next to the elevators without any noise. There is no wifi in the rooms, but wifi in the reception area is free. Breakfast is good. During the weekend there is a buffet, during the week there is an omelette station (a very good one actually). Breakfast is expensive though, the buffet is USD 39.00 (ex tax and service). Add USD 9.00 (!) for an espresso. As indicated, there is a lack of staff and staff is extremely rude an arrogant. I actually think they are so rude in self-defence, otherwise they would not be able to cope with so many complaints. Since wifi was only available in the reception area, I spent some time there watching one person after the other complaining about possibly everything one could complain about. After all, the old dirty room and the other amenities cost around USD 450 per night and it is no wonder that people are disappointed and demand improvement. Close

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights in nov 09. The hotel is located on 111 East 48th St, just a 5 minute walk from Grand Central Station. We stayed on the 4th floor near the lifts. There were 3 adults in the room in two double beds. The room was spacious enough for all 3 of us. It had a tv, ipod docking station, hairdryer, coffee machine, iron & ironing board and a big closet. It was a comfortable room for the 3 of us, the pillows & duvet were fab, so comfy. The room was clean and the maid came in each day. The bathroom was small but had everything we needed. The hotel staff were all friendly, especially the Porters, Angel in particular showed us places to go, bars etc. The food\drinks in the bar and room service were expensive but when you wake up at 530am it was nice to have breakfast delivered to our room. There is a deli over the road that does great cheap breakfast and nice English tea. There's also a nice pub around the corner called Scafu where Angel the Porter directed us to. The lobby is beautiful, the reception staff were good and the location is great, well recommended hotel. Close

just arrived back from the barclay hotel was staying there with family and friends and we had a fantastic time hotel was great the hotel lobby is very impressive our bedrooms were very good and very clean as we were worried by other reviews we had read about this hotel the staff were very friendly and helpful especially angel he was a great help the location of this hotel is excellent easy access to all the sights i would highly recommend anyone to go on a dinner cruise down the hudson river the manhatten skyline at night from the river cruise is a sight worth seeing also i would recommend the premier drinks package with this cruise shopping in new york is a art in itself and we bought lots of bargains even though the rate is not so good only thing we have a gripe about new york is all the tipping thats expected allow this in your budget we also enjoyed a place called ellens diner on broadway the waiting staff entertain u as u dine great night out would defintely go back to the barclay hotel Close

This hotel is very luxurious. Our room was great. The only problem I had was how noisy NYC was at night. You could hear taxi drivers honking their horns at 3 in the morning. But that is not the hotel's fault. Overall, an excellent hotel even though we were barely in it because of all the sight seeing we did! Close
