"Top location, bit rough around edges!"

Stayed here for weekend and had a great time despite being initially a bit disappointed with the small and quite dingy room with broken curtain rail and view of the back of the train station... We didn't spend much time in the room though and I loved the space downstairs - the bar is really nice with views over George square, perfect for people watching over a bottle of prosecco and a lovely way to spend the evening. Breakfast was fine and the location is totally spot on. Overall I'd definitely stay again, and in fact will be back soon I hope as loved Glasgow, very cool city!

"Horrible hotel!!"

We booked into the millennium via lastminute.com. When we then left the reception to go find our room, I can only describe it as unclean and dated. We were very disappointed in the standard of the room, if you ran your finger along any surface it appeared to be covered in a thick layer of dust. After a long discussion about whether to leave we decided we would just stay, bad decision!! Our room was right next to the entrance to Queen Street station, and we might as well have been sleeping in Queen street as we could hear every loudspeaker announcement loud and clear!! The windows seemed to let every little noise in, so there was no option to open them to let any heat out the room which made for a very uncomfortably warm night! Around 11 pm the announcements stopped at the station, however they started again nice and early at 6 am!!! Another issue with the room was the bed, I don't think I would be wrong in saying that it has not been replaced in a very long time, I had a spring digging into my back all night and the pillows were so flat, they were pretty much useless! We paid for a 4* hotel for a relaxing trip away, the Millennium hotel is most certainly not a 4* hotel in my opinion!! The final straw was when we went to check out and I told the receptionist about how uncomfortable our night had been and her response was 'ok', room standards and customer service are definitely not high on the agenda at the Millennium!

"Old and tired but still retains a certain charm"

We stayed at the Millennium Hotel for three nights and got a luke warm welcome when we arrived. We booked a studio suite and although it was very big with lovely high ceilings, a separate sitting area and great views over George Square, it was very dated and tired. The carpets were badly stained as was the sofa, the furniture was quite marked and the wallpaper looked very old and ready to peel! The bathroom was small but it was the most modern part of the room. However, the room was still remained quite nice with a certain charm, it was all very clean and the bed was really comfy. We would have had great sleeps except that there were lots of strange, loud creaking noises at night – not sure where they were coming from, possibly upstairs but it was weird and disturbing! Also the first night there was a function in the bar and we might as well have been there as it was so noisy in our room. There was also lots of noise later on in George Square! Due to the disturbed sleep, we were late to breakfast the first morning at around 10am (it finished at 10.30am). The breakfast was buffet style but there was hardly anything left, it was quite shocking that almost everything was empty! I was going to speak to the head waiter about it but my partner assured me it was because we were quite late and the restaurant was very busy! I firmly believe that you should have the same choices whatever time you arrive at breakfast! We settled for just cornflakes and toast and then after about ten minutes, staff appeared and started filling up the food!! The moment had gone though and we no longer felt like anything else to eat – a very disappointing breakfast! In fairness though, the next two mornings were fine and the food was lovely but imagine if we had only been staying one night, it would not have been good! We also had access to the “Club Lounge” where they served complimentary refreshments all day and drinks in the early evening. We only went in once and found it to be very small with not much atmosphere but we enjoyed a glass of wine looking out at the Square. The hotel is very old and although it was interesting to read its history and I really loved the fabulous grand staircase, the high ceilings, the spaciousness and the feel of the place, our room was definitely very tired and in need of renovation – stained carpets and furniture are not good. The public areas however do look good and the restaurant and bar seemed to be always busy and there is no doubt that the location is superb, but we probably would not stop there again.

The man on reception was very friendly and efficient and gave guests a good first impression, located in a great spot overlooking George Square, the bar is just fab for some people watching and a Saturday night in any city is worth some amusing observations, Glasgow was most entertaining ;) Room was large, bed was comfortable and despite being in a room overlooking the square, was not noisy at all really. Didn't eat breakfast there, plenty of cafes round about with better deals and if you are lucky and the sun is shining lots of outdoor eating round near the art gallery. It is a bit shabby inside and out for a four star, the exterior is in dire need of some TLC, toilets don't flush well and the shower was lukewarm. I would stay again if there was a deal on but other than that would give somewhere else a go.

"Don't stay unless you can afford a club room"

Arrived very late due to a delayed flight and given a very tired, broom cupboard with a tiny double bed, no double glazing, plaster missing from the ceiling and the A/C didn't work. Couldn't open the window as we overlooked the A/C outlet for Queen St train station which just blew warm air at us! Contacted an harrassed yet sympathetic reception to move but was told the hotel was full. Went to bed disheartened and devising plans to move the next day. Woken early by train station announcements and a cold shower as the hotel was having water issues. Spoke to the duty manager who was very sympathetic and acknowledged that this was not what was expected of a 4star hotel. She said she would do her best to get us moved while we enjoyed our day out. She was very professional, promised nothing she couldn't guarantee she could deliver and made a few suggestions as to what she would try to do for us. When we got back later we had been upgraded from a standard to a club room and given complimentary drinks that evening and breakfast the next day. A shining example of good customer service. I've had to average all the marks regarding the room, as the two were so completely at opposite ends of the spectrum.
