Los Angeles Hotels
The second most populous city in the United States, and one of the richest in the world, Los Angeles has held the Summer Olympics twice, and is perhaps best known for its highly successful media industry.
Unlike cities on the east coast, Los Angeles did not become part of the United States until the mid-19th century, and was originally under Spanish and Mexican control, hence its Spanish name.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame
Find out if the name of your favourite actor or actress has been inscribed on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which contains well over 2,500 stars dedicated to Hollywood figures. These stars, which have been marked on more than a mile of sidewalks, also include the names of musicians, producers and other people who have made their name in American cinema, and are seen by around ten million visitors each year.
The Griffiths Observatory
When it comes to panoramic views, there's no better spot to observe the city than from the balconies of the Griffiths Observatory, a fascinating science attraction that is free to enter. For the best views, consider visiting just before sunset, when the sky transforms into a majestic pinkish haze.
Universal Studios Hollywood
There are few places in the world that are as captivating and awe-inspiring as Universal Studios Hollywood, which in 2014, celebrated its 50th anniversary as a theme park. Here you can see the studios used in the production of Hollywood blockbusters, and take part in numerous family-friendly themed rides such as Shrek 4D, the Special Effects Stage show, and the 3D Motion Simulator of Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem.
The Getty Center
To witness some of the world's most famous 19th and 20th-century paintings, spend some time at the Getty Center, which opened in 1997 and welcomes well over a million visitors annually. The venue is part of the enormous J. Paul Getty Museum, which also includes the Getty Villa, a fascinating educational museum with thousands of artefacts from the Ancient Greek, Roman and Etruscan areas.
