"An okay hotel"

We stayed at Le Monde for 2 nights recently for a special occasion. We managed to get a last minute deal which gave us a significant discount. I'll start with the positives: The location is brilliant, you can park in either the St.James' Centre (5 mins away) or near the Omni (8 mins away) which is great. The reception staff are friendly and helpful. The bath and shower were brill, the best bit! The air con worked well which I was thankful for as the weather was very muggy and the hotel hallways were so hot! But the room could be set to lovely and cool. The hotel is trendy and modern feeling and it was nice not to stay in a large chain hotel. Cons: The room, although overall looked lovely, was a bit rough around the edges and the longer we stayed the more we noticed this (chipped paint, metal plugs in wall left unfinished, bathroom door not shutting properly etc etc) - it was by no means terrible and I really only raise this to say that had we paid full price to stay here it would not have been worth the money. We didn't have a view which was a bit disappointing, just looked straight on to another building. Breakfast is served around a central bar, which doesn't feel all that relaxing and is really noisy with staff filling up ice, chatting about their weekends and workmen in looking at the machines. I didn't enjoy breakfast being served in this environment. From the pics online we expected an amazing room and ours just felt "okay". I was really nervous about how we would sleep given the many other reviews about the noise, but we slept very well :) Overall, this hotel was just okay and even though we had a fab few days, the hotel was slightly underwhelming. There was just something about it which didn't feel special or fancy for a 4 star. My advice would be if you can get a good deal then give it a go, but if not go elsewhere as I don't feel it would be worth the full price.

"Pleasant and professional staff, great location, disappointing facilities - overpriced"

My fiance and I were recently guests of Le Monde Hotel. We stayed in the Casablanca suite for the first and second nights, and the Cairo suite for the third night. While the staff of the hotel was exceptionally friendly and professional, the accommodations left much to be desired. Upon checkout, I was extremely disappointed with our stay at your hotel, especially given the price. I would like to detail my grievances in the following paragraphs. Upon check-in, we were initially given the Casablanca suite. Upon walking into the suite, the room felt very warm and stuffy. The thermastat read 18 degrees Celsius at the time. I called down to the front desk and expressed concern that the air conditioning in the room was not working. I was reassured that the air conditioning was working, but could take more than an hour to cool down the room. I felt it was strange that it was so cool outside, and so warm and stuffy inside the suite. It was as if there was no air circulation in the room at all - just stagnant, warm air. I was also extremely disappointed to discover that there were no windows in the suite which could be opened to let in fresh air from outside. We nevertheless went along with what the front desk attendant said, and we left for dinner. Upon returning to the room after dinner, the thermostat again read 18 degrees Celsius, which was obviously incorrect. The room felt more stuffy and warm than it did before we left for dinner. I was jet-lagged and exhausted, and was actually able to sleep (albeit not comfortably), but my fiance spent most of the night tossing and turning, and sweating. The next day we spoke (again) with the front desk attendant, and we were assured that the temperature was going to be fixed. We were out most of the day, and returned after dinner. The temperature in the room was virtually unbearable. My fiance was exhausted and fell asleep. I however, was not that fortunate. I lay in bed on top of the blankets, wearing no clothes, sweating and miserable. At 12:30 am, I decided I couldn't stand it any longer and called downstairs to ask for help. The desk attendant was very polite and understanding. We were told there were no other rooms which could accommodate us. I begged the attendant for at least a fan, which he was able to bring to the room around 1:00 am. When he came to the door to deliver the fan, he commented on how stifling hot he found the room to be. The thermostat again read 18 degrees Celsius, which was obviously incorrect. I used the fan and was able to sleep, but was extremely uncomfortable the entire night. The next morning, we went in person to the front desk and begged for a different room, and we were switched to the Cairo suite. While the room was definitely cooler than the Casablanca suite, I am certain it was not 18 degrees Celsius, as indicated by the thermostat. However, it was definitely more comfortable than the Casablanca suite, so we were happy.....initially. However, later that day, we discovered that the shower drain was broken, and flooded the entire bathroom every time we showered. Water also leaked outside the bathroom door, down the stairs leading up to the bathroom. This was not only disgusting, unpleasant, and annoying, but potentially dangerous. Every time we showered, we had to clean up a watery mess inside and outside the bathroom. Also, a storage closet is located immediately outside the Cairo suite door. This storage closet has a broken door, which creates a loud banging sound every time it is opened (and subsequently slams shut). We heard this noise at all hours - day and night. We tested it ourselves - opening it gently and releasing it created a very loud bang. This woke us up repeatedly, and was incredibly annoying. Lastly, I was again disappointed to discover that no windows in the room could be opened for fresh air. That just makes no sense to me. Given such poor accommodations, I was also shocked to learn we were charged for the water by the bedside, and shortbread cookies at the minibar. I would have expected these items to be complimentary. While I was aware of the cost of this hotel in advance of our stay (195, 195, and 295 pounds for each night, respectively), I am shocked at the poor value that was reflected in this price. While the staff was incredibly professional, the facilities were unsatisfactory, and frankly, not worth half the price we were charged. I would not stay at this hotel again.

Had supper last night in Le Monde and thoroughly enjoyed it. Staff, food and ambiance great and so much nicer than I remembered from previous visits. The food was really good and good choice on menu. All the staff were very attentive and nothing too much trouble. Would highly recommend especially if you can get a booth to right at front area.

There is no denying this hotel and the rooms are stunning, the location is great for pubs and restaurants but it is hugely let down by the noise of the hotel nightclub (if you go to the nightclub you wont mind but if you want to get to sleep at a reasonable time its an issue!) luckily I stayed for work as if I had paid this price for a personal trip I would have been asking for a refund. The boom from the music was continous and just as u start to drift off a large group would come outside to smoke and wake u up screaming and shouting, this went on until about 3am when the noise got worse as everyone came out at closing time for about an hour screaming, shouting arguing... Until finally silence!

My husband and I stayed in the New York suite for his 40th birthday and our stay was faultless from beginning to end! We arrived early but staff were more than happy to keep our luggage and said they would make sure they were put into our room for when we returned. After exploring the city we returned to the hotel and found the check in quick and easy. Our luggage was indeed waiting for us on arrival to our room. Room was HUGE!, spotless and very modern. I had requsted a rose petal turndown and chocolates etc which was an amazing touch and the birthday card left from the hotel staff wishing my husband an enjoyable birthday was a lovely touch! The button controlled mood lighting is excellent and the bathroom was to die for. A huge double rainfall shower with Temple Spa toiletries and again there was mood lighting in the bathroom. The complimentary bottles of water beside the bed are again a lovely touch. There was a huge T.V which was easy to work and a DVD player and ipod docking station. We rang reception to book a table in the restaurant for dinner which the staff were more than happy to do for us. As i am a fussy eater i was more than delighted to find macaroni cheese also on the menu along with more adventurous options to please all tastes. The food was amazing, the surroundings fabulous and the staff lovely. The prices of the food were also very reasonable considering the setting. We had drinks in the cocktail bar after dinner and when i asked for a cocktail which was not on the menu this was not a problem and the barman went out of this way to make it specially for me. We had a lovely peaceful nights sleep considering you are in the middle of the city and were not disturbed at all. Check out was again quick and easy. All in all a fabulous stay which gave my husband a birhday to remember! We will definately be back in the future and recommending you to friends. It was well worth the money. Also we would dine in your restaurant again if in the city for the day. Thanks for a memorable stay!!!
