Caleta de Fuste hotels
Caleta de Fuste is a desirable holiday destination on the spectacular Canary Island of Feurteventura. This community has earned an enviable reputation for its excellent water sports activities, and is only a 10km journey from the island's international airport. Like the rest of Fuerteventura, Caleta de Fuste benefits from high annual sunshine hours and particularly mild winters.
The resort – an overview
This area of Fuerteventura was an important military defence from the 18th century onwards, when a castle was built to protect the area from criminals arriving on merchant ships – or pirates. However, Caleta de Fuste did not really grow to prominence until the late 20th century when large numbers of hotels, restaurants and shops opened to serve the growing number of tourists arriving on the island.
The resort overlooks a fantastic sandy beach, which is relatively sheltered and ideal for sunbathing all year round, and the clear sea water is perfect for paddling and swimming. Many people also visit Caleta de Fuste to spend some time at its world-class golfing venues, some of which include Bouganvilles Golf and the Fuerteventura Golf Club.
Where to stay
For the ultimate holiday experience in a fabulous beach setting, choose the Elba Carlota Beach & Convention Resort, a firm favourite for leisure and business travellers. For affordable but sophisticated Caleta de Fuste hotels, consider the Barcelo Castillo Beach Resort, the Broncemar Beach Hotel, or the very budget-friendly but comfortable Club Montecastillo.
Where to dine
If you're looking to try some delicious Fusion cuisine, don't forget to dine at the elegant Nestor's (The Bahia de Cata) restaurant. For some wonderful paella and other traditional Spanish dishes, head to the Margarita restaurant, or dine at The Cave - Lounge Café for some delectable Italian-themed dishes.
Further afield – the Corralejo Dunes Nature Park
The Corralejo Dunes are one of the great wildernesses of the Canary Islands, and became a protected landscape in 1982. This Nature Park includes a seven-kilometre beach, towering sand dunes, and incredibly clean sea water, although visitors should note that, due to strong currents, the sea here is not suitable for swimming.
If you're interesting in exploring the rest of Fuerteventura, consider visiting some of the island's other pristine beaches. These include the renowned Playa de Sotavento beach, the Playa de Cofete with its endless miles of sand, and the breathtaking El Cotillo Beach & Lagoons.
