Hip hotels in Rotterdam - the home of modern architecture

Devastated during the bombing raids of World War II, Rotterdam has taken advantage of the opportunities presented by an urban blank canvas and recreated itself as one of the world's coolest cities. Local lad Rem Koolhaas has played an instrumental role in attracting architects and designers to the city, and today the streets are lined with bizarre and beautiful structures.

The biggest port in Europe, Rotterdam is almost entirely surrounded by water. Take a trip up to the observation deck of the Euromast, the 186m tower that stands in Parkhaven, and marvel at the entire city slotted into spaces between the rivers and inlets. The view's great, but to really appreciate the city up close, head down to Witte de Withstraat, arguably Rotterdam's hippest street, and enjoy the unique bars, shops and galleries that attract locals and visitors alike.
