Playa es Cana is a small resort, located on the southeast side of the island of Ibiza. It’s not far from the popular family destination of Santa Eulalia, and like its neighbour, Playa es Cana offers a pace of life that is ideally suited to those holidaymakers travelling with young children.
On a holiday to Playa es Cana you’ll be able to take advantage of the great selection of beaches around this part of the island. The waters here are for the most part shallow with gentle waves, making it a great spot to bring young children. Along the waterfront you’ll be able to find a good selection of beach bars, as well as cafés and restaurants with large outdoor terraces. At one end of the beach is a small harbour, from where it is possible to book boat trips out around the dramatic coastline of the island.
You’ll find a wide selection of water sports on offer at Playa es Cana, including banana boats, pedalos, jet skis and windsurfing. Scuba diving is also popular in these clear, shallow waters, with a number of diving schools in the area.
Other things to do while on a holiday in Playa es Cana include paying a visit to the market at Punta Arabi. This is held each Wednesday, with stalls that sell everything from spices to local handicrafts; you’ll find leather goods, jewellery, wood carvings and ornaments everywhere you turn, making this the perfect place to pick up an unusual souvenir.
Another nearby attraction is the cave network that can be found in the area around Playa es Cana. The Santa Eulalia cave is particularly impressive, with a selection of stalactites and unusual rock formations. Elsewhere it is possible to visit a network of underground tombs, which are believed to date back to the Phoenician civilization. Covering a total area of 50,000 square metres, these are the largest and best-preserved underground tombs in the world.
Then of course, there is the famous Ibiza nightlife. While Playa es Cana itself is relatively peaceful, you won’t be far away from the thriving streets of San Antonio and Ibiza Town, which boast a number of big name clubs such as Es Paradis, Manumission and Cream.
A holiday in Playa es Cana offers a great combination of peace and quiet, in a truly breathtaking setting. You won’t pay as much here as you would in some of the busier towns on the island, but there are still opportunities to head out and experience the lively resort towns for which Ibiza is so famous.
