Local history

If you’re interested in the city’s history then a great place to visit is the Cathedral of the Assumption. Built on the site of a 7th-century basilica, the cathedral was designed by a collection of many different architects including Francesco Cortese and Paolo Andreotti. The cathedral has some stunning altars made of violet marble and an exquisite collection of paintings, the most famous of which was made in the workshop of the painter, Titian.

Cable car

A more modern addition to the city, but a fantastic experience nonetheless, is the cable-car system. Opened in 2010, the cable car whisks you up to the top of Mount Srdj in just four minutes. At the summit you are treated with breathtaking views of the city and its terracotta-tiled old city. You’ll definitely want to pose for a few holiday snaps with such a magnificent backdrop. There’s also a great coffee bar so you can enjoy a snack while you take in the view.

Kayak tour

A brilliant way to enjoy the gorgeous waters around Dubrovnik is with a kayak trip. Run in small groups and guided by specialist instructors, the tours are a great way to see the impressive old city walls. The tours usually stop on local beaches where you can grab a quick snack before you head out again. They also offer the opportunity to discover some of the local sea life as the guides will take you to all the best spots for snorkelling.

Banje Beach

When you want to spend a day relaxing on the beach you should go to Banje Beach, which is the closest to the old town. The nearby EastWest club offers deck chairs and parasols for rental so you can sit back and relax in the sun.
