Cheap flights to Stockholm
Visit the capital of Sweden and discover the biggest Scandinavian city there is. Search lastminute.com for Stockholm flights and save on the Viking adventure of a lifetime.
Places to see
The city’s affinity with water is well known thanks to its Viking history, so you might want to head across to the Vasa Museum on your stay. Here you can see replica and real ships from the ages in a family friendly setting. If you’re looking for something a little more light hearted, or simply love disco, then head over to the Abba museum where you can learn more about the world famous European band.
Once you’ve had your fill of the indoors, enjoy the brisk Swedish surroundings by taking a trip to Djurgarden. At the park you’ll be able to go for a walk or rent bikes and go cycling – it’s a great spot to take a picnic and relax in the outdoors too.
The Old Town is a good place to start your visit to Stockholm. It’s sat on a small island linked at either end by some pretty bridges. Go along and enjoy the Scandinavian architecture, wander the main square Stortorget and choose from the many restaurants and cafés within it. Just outside the square you’ll be able to see the Baroque-style Royal Palace and Royal Chapel, which are both great for photos. Whilst you’re here have a look for souvenirs – there are few places in the city better for that.
In the evening
In the evenings there are plenty of restaurants to go for a bite to eat and the bar/nightclub scene is really strong here.
If you’re looking for top-end restaurants there are a few. Places like Oaxen, listed in Restaurant Magazine’s top 50 worldwide, this Nordic bistro-style food has some really impressive dishes on offer. As with a lot of Stockholm’s restaurants there’s plenty of fish on the menu and the decorations inside really latch onto that.
If you’re looking for something a little less mainstream then Lux Dag for Dag is a great spot. From the outside the building looks like a hip nightclub, but inside you’ll find a warm and cosy dining area. The menus change daily here according to what people are enjoying at the time, but the quality remains the same.
If you work up a thirst then you’ll find it easy to find a friendly and accommodating bar. There’s a real range of pubs for hard-core drinkers and younger trendier bars too. Pet Sounds Bar is one such place, with regular activities where you can expect to find a quiz of some sort or live music on most nights. Peppar on St Eriksplan, home of the stor stor stark is also a personal favourite.
Stockholm is a great city for its tourists; here you’ll find a real combination of culture and the contemporary, not to mention cheap package deals on it all with lastminute.com.
