Florida's biggest city, Miami is probably the United States’ favourite destination for sun, sea and serious partying. Home of the legendary spring-break for American students, it is a city that shines with a pulsing cultural rhythm, year-round sun, world-famous nightlife and top-notch dining. Whatever you want from Miami, one thing is for sure, in this sparkling metropolis in the sun you will not be disappointed.
Flights to Miami depart from Manchester and London airports, and are usually non-stop. Total flying time is usually nine hours and flights will land in Miami International Airport, seven miles from downtown Miami. From here you can jump on a train or bus, or grab a taxi to take you to your next stop.
No matter what you want from a beach, you will find it in Miami. Relax in a secluded spot away from the crowds or explore a nature reserve on beaches like Bal Harbour or Crandon Park. Play with the kids on a family friendly beach such as Matheson Hammock Park Beach, or live it up in a hotspot lined with cafés and bars, such as America’s party beach, the world-famous South Beach.
Miami has its cultural roots firmly embedded in the Cuban population which has made Miami its home for over five decades. Head to Little Havana for Cuban novelty stores, local galleries and more. Downtown Miami is a mighty cultural area with museums that are home to art and science, and historical monuments such as the Freedom Tower.
Rent a car and take a trip to the south of Miami with its quiet suburbia and farmlands. Racing fans should visit Homestead Speedway’s Miami Exotic Auto Racing and get suited-up ready to take the wheel on a NASCAR race track for the ride of your life. Don't forget to see the Everglades and the Alligator Farm while in the area either; with over 2,000 alligators including a 14-footer, there is plenty to see! You can also take airboat tours, explore a walking trail and see a snake show.
If you think Miami is a lively place during the day, stick around after dark to really see things hotting up! Experience high-energy nightclubs, Tiki and Rat Pack lounge bars, the best jazz and salsa clubs and some of the hottest live music venues around. No matter what you want in the way of excitement, the hot Miami nights have it all!
From Cuban cuisine to regular all-American goodness, Miami has everything you could ask for when it comes to great food. Head to Little Havana for superb Cuban food, Little Haiti for some Caribbean classics and Miami Beach for some of the best fish dishes in America. In the south of Miami make a stop at Robert Is Here in Homestead, a fruit stand where they sell amazing milkshakes made with fruit grown on-site. They also make a fantastic key lime pie!
