Windsor Castle tickets

The Castle covers an area of about 5 hectares (13 acres) and contains:

  • Magnificent State Apartments furnished with treasures from the Royal Collection
  • St George's Chapel (one of the most beautiful ecclesiastical buildings in England and the burial place of 10 monarchs)
  • Queen Mary's Dolls House, a masterpiece in miniature
  • The Drawings Gallery featuring an exhibition (see below for current display)

During the winter months an additional five rooms, known collectively as the Semi-State Rooms, are included in the visitor route. Standard admission charges apply. Please note the Semi-State Rooms are now closed fo the summer.

Queen Mary's Dolls' House
The most famous dolls’ house in the world, full of miniature versions of fixtures, fittings and decorations from the real Windsor Castle. The Dolls' House took over 3 years and 1,500 craftsmen to complete, and even features electric lighting and flushing toilets!

St George’s Chapel
One of the finest examples of Gothic ecclesiastical architecture in England, the imposing St. George's Chapel is sure to take your breath away. As well as being the final resting place of 10 kings and queens as well as dozens of other royals and aristocrats, the chapel has hosted 14 royal weddings throughout its history including those of Queen Victoria's children.

State Apartments
Known as much for their immense collection of artworks as for their lavish state parties and functions, the spectacular State Apartments are home to works by acclaimed artists as varied as Rembrandt, Rubens, Canaletto and Gainsborough.

Drawing from the wealth of Shakespeareana in the Royal Library this exhibiton will examine aspects of the playwright's life, work and influence, and celebrate his longstanding connection with Windsor and the royal court.

Fashioning a Reign: 90 Years of Style from The Queen's Wardrobe

17 September – 31 December 2016

In celebration of The Queen's 90th birthday, three special exhibitions will be staged across each of Her Majesty's official residences during 2016. Fashioning a Reign will chart significant events in The Queen's life and the nation's history through an unprecedented collection of dress and accessories designed for these occasions, from childhood to the present day.

In total, over 150 outfits worn by The Queen will be presented across the three Palaces, with each special exhibition displaying a selection of outfits chosen because of their close association with the location.

Christmas at the Castle - 25 November - 31 December 2016

From 25 November, the State Apartments at Windsor Castle will be transformed to celebrate Christmas with festive decorations and glittering Christmas trees.

Changing of the Guard
Taking place daily at 11am from April - July and alternate days throughout the rest of the year, this colorful tradition is not to be missed.

  • Please take a printed copy of your confirmation email with you.
  • Your confirmation email acts as your e-ticket for entry.
  • Please remember to bring along the credit card that you made the booking with for identification
    Please remember to bring student ID if you have purchased a concession ticket
  • As a working royal palace, opening arrangements may chance at short notice. Please check before planning a visit

    April to October: Monday-Sunday 09:45-17:15 (last admission 16:00)

  • Please note the following closures are scheduled - St Georges Chapel - 8 July 2016 closed until 10:30 (The Chapel is closed every Sunday to visitors. Worshippers are welcome to attend the service)
  • Please note as this is a working royal residence closures may take place at late notice.
