Wicked reviews continue to praise the hit show, calling it "one of the greatest musicals of our time" (Daily Mail). Now the 8th longest running show in the West End, and still soaring high at London's Apollo Victoria Theatre after more than 4,000 performances, this global phenomenon has already been seen by more than 7 million people in London alone.
The Wicked story is based on the acclaimed novel by Gregory Maguire that ingeniously re-imagined the characters created by L. Frank Baum in 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz'. Wicked the musical tells the incredible untold story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two sorcery students. Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfil their destinies as Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
One of the most beloved musicals in West End Theatre, the Wicked play brings to life the notorious Witches of Oz and a completely new perspective of the renowned 1900 novel 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz'. Few people will be unfamiliar with the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz, which earned two Oscars and four Oscar nominations, and was one of the first films to be produced in Technicolor.
As you might imagine, the show has received many prestigious awards since its inception, including an Olivier Award for Most Popular Show (2010) and a This Morning Audience Award (2015). It has also earned numerous Drama Desk Awards, multiple Tony Awards, more than two-dozen Broadway.com Audience Choice Awards, and the Best Musical Award in lastminute.com's very own People's Choice Awards.
The Wicked cast London members include Willemijn Verkaik as Elphaba, Suzie Mathers as Glinda, Oliver Savile as Fiyero, Sue Kelvin as Madame Morrible, Mark Curry as The Wizard, Sarah McNicholas as Nessarose, Idriss Kargbo as Boq, and Martin Ball as Doctor Dillamond.
Wicked is held at the famous Apollo Victoria Theatre in Victoria, which opened in 1930 and can accommodate up to 2,500 guests. Over the decades, it has hosted many internationally renowned productions, including The Sound of Music (1981-1982), Starlight Express (1984-2002) and Saturday Night Fever (2004-2006).
The theatre, now Grade II listed, is very close to Victoria Railway Station and Underground, and is also within walking distance of Buckingham Palace and Green Park.
The show lasts for 2 hours and 45 minutes, including a 20 minute interval, and the Apollo Victoria Theatre opens 1 hour before the start of each performance.
