The award-winning Lion King costumes, designed by Julie Taymor, add the perfect visual accompaniment to the beloved stage show.

Cast of The Lion King

The book by Roger Allers and Irene Mecchi is brought to life on stage by the talented Lion King cast, which features Nick Afoa in his West End debut as Simba, George Asprey (Chicago, The Sound of Music) as Scar, Shaun Escoffery (The Who’s Tommy, Smokey Joe’s Café) as Mufasa, and Brown Lindiwe Mkhize as Rafiki.

Disney’s hit animated movie was released in 1994, with the musical stage adaptation opening on Broadway in 1997. The West End show debuted in the Lyceum Theatre in 1999 and Lion King reviews continue to praise this mesmerising production, calling it ‘as fresh and soul-stirring as ever’ (The Telegraph) and ‘a feast for the eyes’ (The Guardian).


How long is The Lion King musical?
