Les Misérables - London

The world’s longest-running musical, Les Misérables continues to enchant theatre-goers in London’s West End with its gripping story and stirring songs. The show celebrated its thirtieth birthday in 2015, having first opened at the Barbican in 1985. Les Mis, as it’s affectionately known, firmly holds a place in the nation’s heart, from Susan Boyle’s rendition of I Dreamed a Dream on Britain’s Got Talent to the many school productions that take place every year. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or new to the phenomenon, there’s nothing like the experience of a Les Miserables West End performance.

What is Les Miserables about?

Based on the historical novel by Victor Hugo, the musical follows the life and transformation of ex-convict Jean Valjean during the social and political upheavals of 19th Century Paris. Songs from Les Miserable, with orchestra, include “Bring Him Home”, “One Day More” and “On My Own” and each lavish performance requires 392 complete costumes and 31 wigs. The musical isn’t just a hit in London either – it’s been seen by over 70 million people in 44 countries and in 22 languages around the globe and continues to break international box office records.

The Les Miserables London cast has featured so many talented actors over the years, from Michael Ball, who made his West End debut as Marius in the original production, to the American actress and singer Patti Ann LuPone. A one-off production in 2010 to mark the show’s 25th anniversary even featured Little Britain's Matt Lucas. Recent Les Mis London cast members have included Simon Gleeson as Jean Valjean and Lucy O’Byrne as Fantine.
