Based on the popular Harold Gray comic strip Little Orphan Annie from the 1930s, the original show was a huge hit on Broadway when it opened in 1977. It spawned numerous productions in many countries, as well as national tours, and won the Tony Award for Best Musical. The first film adaptation was released in 1982, starring Albert Finney as Daddy Warbucks, and Carol Burnett as Miss Hannigan. The Annie 2014 film received two Golden Globe Award nominations, one for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical (for Wallis) and another for Best Original Song.
