Juliet’s House

A romantic place to visit if you’re travelling with your partner is the Casa di Giulietta. The house is supposed to be the location for the famous balcony scene from the play but is, in fact, just a tourist destination. Despite its inauthenticity, it’s still a romantic place to visit, and you won’t be able to resist taking some holiday pics of your partner calling down from the balcony. The house is also home to a collection of Renaissance frescos that were rescued from nearby demolished palaces.

Castelvecchio

The 14th-century red brick castle sits on the banks of the river Adige and is a fascinating place to visit. The castle was extensively damaged by both Napoleon and bombing in World War Two, but the damage has been made a feature of the castle with careful reconstruction, that doesn’t attempt to hide the past.

The main castle building is also home to the City Art Museum, which has a wonderful collection of medieval sculptures and Renaissance paintings.

Shopping

If you’re a bit of a shopaholic you’ll find yourself perfectly at home in Verona. Via Mazzini’s the best place to go if you want some designer Italian fashion. You will find all the major fashion brands have luxurious stores for you to shop in.

If you’d prefer to take home your own piece of Italy, a great place to try is the street Corso Santa Anastasia, which has a vibrant selection of antique shops for you to browse.

Restaurants

Verona has lots of great restaurants for you to spend a relaxing evening in. Some local specialities you should try are Pizzoccheri and Casoncelli. Pizzoccheri is a special type of pasta made mostly from buckwheat and traditionally served with Swiss chard and potatoes. Casconcelli is a type of ravioli stuffed with bread crumbs, parmesan and salami. Both are really tasty and are not to be missed.
