Rooms With A Special View: Spotlight On The Trafalgar Hotel

Shush….. whisper it, but we might have just found THE best rooftop terrace bar in central London. Well, ok, I can’t actually take too much credit for the discovery, as this hidden gem, boasting breathtaking views over Trafalgar Square, has long been a favourite with the those in the know.

However now we have The Trafalgar Hotel’s Vista bar in our sights, I am sure we will be joining the other alfresco aficionado’s, who will be rubbing their hands with glee as the thermometer starts to rise; in partaking in some summer rooftop cocktail fun.

But it’s not just about the bar…..

Could this be the most central hotel in London?

The Trafalgar Hotel has to have a pretty good claim to being right in the heart of the capital. Nelson’s Column is possibly the most central London landmark, and the hotel is tucked away discretely on the corner of the iconic Trafalgar Square. You name the London attraction, it’s not going to be far away from this contemporary boutique hotel, whether its Big Ben, the London Eye, Westminster Abbey or the likes of Covent Garden or even Oxford Street.

Several of the chic, yet minimalistic , deluxe and deluxe plus rooms offer the stunning views across the Square. And if your room doesn’t overlook the likes of St Martin’s in the Field church or The National Gallery, you can always nip upstairs to the Vista bar (as if you need an excuse!) The four-star hotel attracts everyone from stylish city-breakers to business people looking for the perfect base – and now boasts a new range of clientele looking to splash out on a bit of affordable luxury.

We exclusively asked The Trafalgar Hotel’s General Manager, Jurgen Ammerstorfer, to reveal the secret’s behind the hotel’s success and whether reality TV shows do have an impact on where we want to see and be seen:

Have you seen an uplift in bookings as a result of  reality shows like X Factor and Made in Chelsea?

Absolutely. Especially as the stars from these shows are often up on Vista, our stunning open air rooftop bar socially. It really is a hidden gem. There’s no place quite like it.

Are you seeing younger people booking looking to emulate the lifestyle?

We’re lucky to have a very mixed crowd on Vista so depending on when you drop by the clientele changes. But yes, shows like Made in Chelsea, Britain & Ireland’s Next Top Model and X Factor showcase the hotel and present us with a great platform. We often have the BBC filming here too and more recently ITV for Peter Andre: My Life.

If you could sum up the Trafalgar in 3 words – what would you say?

Contemporary. Stylish. Welcoming.

Why do you think your hotel is so popular?

We are a boutique hotel located in the heart of the city with two very stylish destination bars both renowned for wicked tempting cocktails and great food. We’re fortunate to have stunning London views on our door step, in fact Vista overlooks Trafalgar Square and so you can enjoy the iconic London skyline away from the hustle and bustle of London whilst sipping on Champagne. We are walking distance from most of the major London attractions including Nelson’s Column, The London Eye, Big Ben, Theatre Land and much more; so whether you are staying for business or leisure the location is ideally suited.

Why should people  book a luxury hotel? What are the best benefits?

I would have to say for the style, comfort, service and attention to detail. Our guests come back again and again because they are well looked after.

What famous people have stayed at your hotel?

The hotel has a strong history of celebrity guests including Cuba Gooding Jr, Ray Winstone, Jenson Button, Rio Ferdinand, Sol Campbell, Boris Johnson, Sir Chris Hoy, as well as the likes of Pixie Lott, Nat & Leah Weller, Connor Maynard, Gary Barlow, Keith Lemon and Emma Bunton. It helps that the hotel is very ambient and, surprisingly, very private given its location.
