Eccleston Square Hotel, London: Gadget Wonderland
Let’s face it: we all love tinkering around with technology, especially when its purpose is to make our lives easier and more fun. And when it comes to hotel rooms, you don't have to be a gadget geek to love that flat panel TV in the en-suite or the iPod docking station on the night stand; ideal for a little mood music. At the recently opened Eccleston Square you get all the above and so much more. Its ultra-cool rooms all come packed with the latest gadget paraphernalia: from the newest generation of iPads, to a 3D flat-screen TV complete with 3D movies and glasses, remote-control operated beds and peek-a-boo smart glass bathroom walls, which you can make appear or disappear at the touch of a button!
Welcome to the New Hotel (R)Evolution
Behind a striking Grade II listed late Georgian façade (built in 1835), the ingeniously renovated, 39-bedroom Eccleston Square Hotel is one of Europe’s most high-tech hotels. Its groundbreaking technology sets it apart from modern contemporaries and brings something completely unique to London. High ceilings and enormous original windows are a dominating feature of the building. Black Murano glass chandeliers and Promemoria furnishings provide a tasteful yet sumptuous feel to the public areas which include a reception, drawing room, media lounge, bar and restaurant. Wellbeing, comfort and the soundest night’s sleep are central to the design concept being implemented by Olivia Byrne - a graduate from the esteemed Ecole Hotelière de Lausanne and the youngest owner and general manager of a five-star hotel in London. Ms Byrne, 25, bought the hotel in Belgravia two years ago and after a spending millions of pounds on the revamp has already won a European hospitality award for technology innovation.
The hotel delivers the most advanced, state-of-the-art bedroom amenities with 46 inch Panasonic VIERA Neo Plasma Full HD 3D, HD Movie and 3D channels, 3D Blu Ray DVD players, free super-fast WiFi, free London calls and worldwide VoIP calls at VoIP cost.
Advanced features include finger-tip control pads for lighting, curtains and temperature. In addition, every bedroom boasts its very own iPad2 and every conceivable function or request can be managed from the device – be it room service, housekeeping requests, 3D DVD requests, airline and London information. High-spec marble bathrooms have ‘smart glass’ walls which turn opaque at the touch of a button, plus a TV incorporated into the heated, steam-proof mirror. The wet room features a rainfall shower, high-pressure massage heads including L’Occitane aromatherapy products. To add to guests comfort, every bedroom offers the best beds’ sourced from the acclaimed Swedish manufacturers, Hästens. At a staggering £12,000 each, they are electronically adjustable and feature relaxing massage programs.
