It’s that time of year again when festival fever sweeps the nation and we all celebrate the very best culture on offer – both home-grown and from all four corners of the globe.
And it’s not just Edinburgh that reaches fever pitch. OK, so the city might be the world’s festival capital, but the rest of Scotland also hosts some of the most vibrant and inspiring festivals around.
Combine your short break to Scotland with the best Scottish festivals this July. We’ve picked six great events taking place across the country, so make sure you don’t miss out. Wherever you choose to base yourself, you’re never far from this fantastic festival atmosphere.
Hebridean Celtic Festival – 17-20 July
Better known as Heb Celt, this is the jewel in the crown of the Outer Hebrides’ music calendar. The grounds of Lews Castle in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis will be rocking with a high-octane programme featuring the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, Capercaillie, Van Morrison, The Chair, Karine Polwart and more.
Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival – 19 – 28 July
If you love your smooth music, or even if you’ve never experienced the mellowness of jazz or the vibrancy of blues before, there are hundreds of events to get stuck into. From workshops and lectures to gigs and acoustic improv, this event, now in its 35th year, just keeps getting better.
Glasgow Merchant City Festival – 24 – 28 July
Street art, dance, theatre, music, food and drink. Need we go on? With so much on offer in the heart of Glasgow, you’d be crazy to miss it. What’s more, another great part of the festival celebrates the fashion of days gone by (well, between the 1920s and 1980s!) Vintage Glasgow is your chance to bring the best of the past slap bang into the 21st century.
Aberdeen International Youth Festival – 26 July – 3 August
For top class performances from Scotland and beyond, look no further. This is a true celebration of international culture and performing arts and we think you should be there. Check out the world’s biggest celebration of youth arts in a packed programme of music, theatre, dance and art.
Environmental Art Festival – 30 August – 2 September
We know this isn’t quite in July, but as it’s a brand new festival, we wanted to share. The great outdoors meets the creativity of Dumfries & Galloway so look out for art installations, exhibitions and much more which build on the importance of the natural landscape in one of Scotland’s most beautiful regions.
Don’t forget to keep up to date with all events and festivals across Scotland.
