You're spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing a hotel in Birmingham, so over the next few months i'll be giving you a few pointers. First up, it's the Hyatt Regency hotel on Broad Street. If nothing else, this hotel should score five out of five for location - it's smack bang in the middle of town, just a stones throw (literally) away from the Symphony Hall and bustling Burley Place* (*more on this in a forthcoming blog). The Hyatt is a magnificent, shiny tower, with 319 rooms and suites on over 25 floors, with 5 star hotel facilities including the Amala Spa and Club, Aria Restaurant and Pravada Bar. We stayed in a Junior Suite, which was almost the size of the apartment we live in. A huge, luxurious bed, a long, beautiful bathroom, a lounge area and a huge desk should we want to do any work (i don't think so, but thanks anyway). Best of all were the views - 16 floors up, we had stunning views of the city, made even better by the wall to ceiling windows which ran along the outside wall. Wow. As we were staying in a suite, we had access to the Regency Lounge. This quiet little sanctury sits 23 floors up, again with great views. Here, you can relax, watching the tv or reading a newspaper, or just chilling out with friends, colleagues or loved ones. Between 5.30 and 7.30pm, a concierge was on hand to serve us with a gorgeous range of canapes and free alcohol. Oh yes, we made the most of that. Now obviously, a suite isn't cheap but you don't come here if you want a cheap stay. You come here, if you want to stay in a high quality hotel. That said, there are a range of rooms and it goes without saying that via lastminute.com, you can grab yourself a stay here for an incredible price. The restaurant sits just off the hotel's lobby, and throughout the day you can enjoy high quality food at standard restaurant prices. We only ate breakfast here, but it's no exaggeration when I say it was one of the best hotel breakfasts i've ever had. The staff at the Hyatt couldn't have been more attentive. They will help you in every which way they can and we left feeling like royalty. Definately a five out of five.
